This Saturday at my house there will be a baby shower for our daughter-in-law and our new grandson that will be arriving next month. I am trying to do this shower in Kellie’s colors for the nursery. She has picked a “Nantucket” theme which is navy, green and white. These colors, like all colors have many different veriations. The greens can have a lime or mint color and the blue’s can look purple but this is doable and fun!
For a party favor, since I love to cook I have made a mason jar with all the dry ingredients of chocolate chip cookies. I had seen this on Pinterest many times but the jars and the amount of product that went in the jar did not work. So off I go on my way to figure this one out.
I used my own cookie recipe and split it in half (minus the nuts) but added the cute blue M&M’s to make it look like a boy shower gift. You could add pink if it’s a girl.
Buy the quart size Ball Mason jars. I bought mine at Walmart for about $11 for 12 jars.
I added the ingredients one at a time and leveled them as best I could:
My kitchen was a disaster!! I lined the ingredients up on the counter and did 4 jars at a time.
As I said before I leveled the ingredients as best I could by holding the jar and pounding on the bottom.
I bought the blue M&M’s at Swoozies but you could probable order them on line too.
Make sure you always put your brown sugar in first and pack it down or you will get this:
Not quite as pretty….No, no.
After making the dry ingredients for the cookies you have to make a tag to give the instructions on what wet ingredients to add. I wanted it to be all matchy-matchy. I had one set of invitation that I had purchased at Zazzle.com and they had put the wrong information on the invitation. I almost threw them out but at the last minute decided not to in case I could use them for something else. I wasn’t really sure how I could use them but I kept them anyway. I also order a blue and whit striped paper to make the tags. (Zazzle did replace my invites free of charge)
Well, I ended up cutting the alligator off the incorrect invitation and using it with my instructions tag.
I also had some ribbon that my daughter Amy had picked up for the shower. At the time she bought it we were not sure what we were going to do with it either but it sure worked out well for these jars.
Then to attach the tag…….twine or raffia? We chose raffia and the assembly line begins
again:
My finished product………………………………………………………..
I did use a lot of ingredients and the blue M&M’s were very expensive. That’s why I say to try and order them on line but make sure you order enough. I did 24 jars and because the M&M’s cost $52.00 I spent $120.00. But divide that by 24 and it is only $5.00 each.
Ingrendient’s for the jars:
Add in layers
Chocolate Chip Cookies:
1 1/8 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup blue M&M’s
3/4 cup chocolate chips ( I used Ghirardelli 60% cocoa)
1/3 cups light brown sugar (pack it down some or your whit sugar will slip through)
1/3 cup white
I adding the ingredients in the order listed above. I usually add nuts to but just in case of food allergies I didn’t this time.
This is the list for the tag:
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
1 sick of butter melted
Put all ingredients in a large bowl and stir with a spoon. Mix well and make small size balls. Place on cookie sheet and bake at 325 for 12 to 14 minutes. Makes 1.5 dozen.
